my roommate, julie j., surprised me when i got home on monday with a Christmas tree! i had actually been thinking about it, b/c i helped my mom put hers up. i love putting up the tree, but i was dreading it a little bit this year. i don’t know why…paying for a real one, where would we put it, getting out the decorations, where is my tree stand (lori?), you know, that kinda thing. so she actually had purchased an artifical tree and all the decorations at target without knowing that i had decorations in the storage closet outside. pretty funny. here’s a picture of our beautiful red and gold themed tree:
well, i am officially home from a week up in boston. an entire week but it didn’t feel that long. it’s been a long time since i’ve been somewhere a whole week, and boy was i ready to get back home. of course, i love visiting with my mom. but i think i was gone for a while. anyway, we had a great time. my 2nd plane was a bit rackety, so i was pretty excited when it landed successfully.
friday we went into the city and went to this thing called body world or something like that. it had actual bodies on display that had been through a process called plastination. it preserves the muscles and even the nerves so that they can be observed. these people donated their bodies to science. some even still had skin…you could see all their muscles and organs. i mean it was definitely a first experience for me. i saw kidneys, lungs, livers, intestines, hearts, ear drums…i saw it all. and then went to have a delicious italian meal. what a day.
i was on an airplane from washington to boston the other day that was only a little less than 1/2 way full. i was busy listening to my ipod and making invitations when i looked up and saw the office on the little screens above. i was like…oh yeah! so i got the little headphones and started watching it. i realized it was the most recent episode. i finally understand what the heck it means when tracie wrote on her myspace about a scranton party. i busted….it was heehaw hilarious. i’m telling you. i made a friend beside me too….she was from illinois but goes to boston univ grad school. we had good times on the plane but didn’t get to finish the episode b/c of our final descent.
well, i’m just sitting here waiting on my sheets to dry. (yeah, i don’t know why i’m doing this at 11:45!) anyway, i thought i’d write b/c i’m running out of stuff to do to stay awake……cleaning or organizing my winter clothes just wouldn’t do right now, of course.
went to see that band tonight and they are A-OKAY! i mean they are really good. they seriously rocked the hizz-ouse. i even bought the cd, and i like it. so you should check into them and see if you like them too.
also, i finally went to the tin angel. i have heard from many people how wonderful it was. so my friends, lauren and christi, and i tried it out. i didn’t have an entree – just some fabulous chocolate cake and a coffee drink. i must say it was a memorable experience. i will be back.
i’ll be working doubles tomorrow, friday and saturday since i’ll be gone an entire week to see my mom in boston starting on monday. this should be interesting. but the tennessee/vandy game is saturday, and i’m working from 9:30am to 11:00pm. i should make some major BANK. pretty excited.
i’m going to hear this band tonight:
so far i like them a lot. and actually i recognized a song that i think i’ve heard before. anyway, i’ll tell you how it goes.
I went from not cooking at all for 6 months to cooking two meals, two days in a row for about 30 people. Strange, eh? We had a family meal contest at work. This is a meal that is provided for us free each day that one of our managers cook, so that we don’t have to pay money to eat lunch. It’s very nice. So we had the chance to cook it ourselves. If we are voted best meal, we win a $100 gift card to any store of our choice. I made beef/chicken enchiladas and a key lime pie on the first day. On the second day, I made ham and chicken lasagna. And also a pumpkin roll, on a different day. Anyway, it was lots of fun b/c it was in the kitchen at the restaurant. Everything I needed was right at my fingertips. I felt like oh such a professional. I don’t know if I won yet though, so we’ll see!
The other day I didn’t have any black socks to wear to work. So I decided to go with the most comfortable…and that would be my very soft pink socks. They’re not so argyle, but I like to think of them as so. I’m not supposed to wear that color, but oh well. And it’s a bit embarrassing if someone sees them, so I try to prevent that from happening. Anyway, after work I was meeting some people for our weekly Sunday night gathering at Dan McGuinness. I forgot to bring other socks or shoes, which was pretty tragic. My jeans are dark and my shoes are black! So I found some flip flops in my car and wore them even though it was a little chilly. I stuffed my socks in my shoes and left them in my car. When I got home, I grabbed them and went inside. Once inside, I realized I only had one sock….which made me a bit sad. But it was raining and after midnight, so I wasn’t about to go back outside searching for the sock. I thought about him for a while though…wondering what kind of things might be happening to him. The next morning I was eager to see if he survived the night. So I walked the same path out to my car and never saw him. Right as I walked up to the car, he was lying right by the door! So he survived! And here he is today….he has been silent about the happenings of that evening though. I hope it was peaceful for him.
Just thought I’d say hello to all my fans (Lori & Tracie.) Today was a good day. I worked my counter shift, and a man came in with a big coat on that said Alabama Crimson Tide. So you could imagine my joy. Then I find out that he’s from Cullman County. What? Yes, he grew up in Hanceville and now lives in Trussville. Small world. So I told E.J. at work, who is from Bessemer. Turns out this man is E.J.’s aunt’s brother or something like that (they didn’t know each other though.) I mean crrrr-azy. And then he tipped me $10 on $20something, so that made it sooo good too.
Vanderbilt plays Florida, as you know. And the Gator fans are coming in pretty full force. Today was a bit warm in the sun, but the Gator fans have on tobagans and big ol’ Gator coats. You could tell they were from the lower south, you know? Like AL south……going up north and thinking it was going to be all cold and stuff. But it wasn’t…and it was funny to me. Cause I’ve done it too!
I’m trying to figure out how to post a picture. Do you know how?
